Check your lease
Compare the estimate with the written terms.
Move-in cost is more than the rent due at move-in. Enter the full or prorated rent amount your lease requires, then add deposits, fees, moving expenses, and setup costs to estimate the cash needed before receiving the keys.

Move-in cash = rent + deposits + required fees + moving costs + setup costs.
- Enter the actual full or prorated rent due at move-in; this calculator does not prorate rent automatically.
- Refundable and nonrefundable charges are combined in the total but separated in the breakdown.
- Recurring monthly charges are not projected beyond move-in.

#Worked examples
Typical upfront stack
A $2,000 rent, $2,000 deposit, $300 in fees, and $700 move can require about $5,000 upfront.
Compare cash, not just rent
A lower-rent apartment can still require more move-in cash if its deposit and fees are higher.
